What Causes Jaw Pain?

  • There are many factors that can contribute to jaw pain, but the most common is a long history of Teeth Grinding / Bruxism

  • This can happen BOTH during sleep & during the day

  • Teeth Grinding or Bruxism, causes jaw pain because it places pressure on the mouth muscles for a long period of time

  • We can also experience jaw pain from an uneven bite, such as an overbite or underbite

Do I Have A TMJ Disorder ?

  • Popping or clicking while opening or closing your mouth

  • Inability to open the mouth fully

  • Deviation or Deflection upon opening the mouth

How Is TMD Treated ?

  • The right treatment depends on the underlying reason for jaw pain

  • In case of Disc displacement , Orthotics may be needed

  • In case of Misaligned bite , Orthodontics / Oral surgery may be needed

  • In case of a Missing tooth , Implant may be needed

Some home care remedies to try:

  • Ibuprofen is an over-the-counter pain reliever that can help

  • Holding a cold compress to the cheek will help reduce inflammation and swelling around the joint
